ANSI C63.19 HAC Workshop with
DASY5 Air at PCTEST Engineering Lab,
Columbia, MD, USA

ANSI HAC

At the ANSI C63.19 Workshop on Hearing Aid Compatibility Measurements, held on 10 October 2008, training and demonstration of HAC compliance testing was performed on a newly installed DASY5 AIR system at PCTEST Engineering Lab in Columbia, MD, USA.

One of the advantages of the new system is that the wireless device can be tested in the same configuration for RF E-field and RF H-field emissions as well as for T-Coil signals by simply changing the probes. Unlike other sensors, the SPEAG AM1D probe for the audio magnetic (T-Coil) fields incorporates a preamplifier and is fully immune to RF emissions from the wireless device. There is no need to replace the antenna with a coaxial cable, apply shielding or modify the wireless device for the T-Coil test. All orientations are measured with the same probe. The pre-installed signals allow fast scanning (only 1s per point with a voice signal and even faster rates with a sine signal). Also, user defined or standard signals such as the P.50 can be applied.

Some of our customers were not aware that SPEAG performs the filtering for the ABM1 and ABM2 in the time domain, and not the frequency domain, by convoluting the digital data stream with the filter parameters. Therefore, the data provided are fully compliant with the requirements of the standard. The visualization of the third-octave filtered values was conducted independently. To avoid future problems, the third-octave filtered values up to 10 kHz will be displayed in our next release.

The validation devices are now available with ISO 17025 traceable calibration for both the RF and T-Coil parts. New bands have also been added to our broadband RF dipoles for free space that have a high return loss over a wide band and do not require compensation of the reflected power. In addition, the SPEAG TMFS telephone magnetic field simulator with an extremely flat frequency response is available with numerical target values.
